Applications for the new federal unemployment benefit scheme are being processed in Melbourne.
The deadline for applications is Saturday, April 16.
Applicants are expected to pay a $180 application fee.
Applicant’s names will be put on a waiting list for a maximum of two weeks.

A spokesman for the Victorian Department of Human Services said the new scheme would be similar to the existing Workfare scheme, which was designed to provide temporary help to people who are jobless.
The Victorian Government said the scheme would help people who cannot find work because of a lack of skills, and is aimed at those who are unable to find a permanent job or are at risk of losing it.
